Late Cephas Mashakada |
The late musician Cephas Mashakada’s widow, Eunice, has composed a song Pane Shungudzangu, which she said would be released in two months’ time.
Eunice told NewsDay that after writing the song, she gave it to Shemu Chibage Mashonganyika, leader of Mashakada’s band, The Sounds of the Muddy Face, for finishing touches.
“I dreamt of that song just after my husband’s death and decided to write it down before I gave it to Mashonganyika who is working on it, but I am sure they have finished working on the album,” said Eunice.
“In writing the song, I realised that I have nothing else to do in my life except praying and that is what the song is all about.” Mashonganyika confirmed they were working on a new album which will be released in two months’ time.
“We are working on a new album in which most of the songs had been written by Cephas Mashakada before he died and one written by Mother (Eunice) and will be ready in two months’ time,” said Mashonganyika.
Mashonganyika said some of the songs include Edina Mwanangu and Pane Shura, among others.
He said he will continue recording with Metro Studios which had just signed a contract with Mashakada before his death.
Mashonganyika hailed Eunice and sungura musician Alick Macheso for supporting the group after the death of its founder. “I want to thank Mother for being supportive to the group and Alick Macheso for being supportive to the group.
“He (Macheso) has promised to take care of us until the time we will be ready to go solo,” he said. (Newsday)
