Reincarnation of Tongai Moyo

Peter 'Igwe' Moyo
When Tongai Moyo sadly passed on last year, his multitudes of fans were grief stricken. The whole music fraternity was shocked at the sudden death of the Sungura maestro. Many thought that was the end of the 'Dhewa' legacy. Muchina muhombe was gone so was his music legacy.

Little did the music fraternity know that, his son Peter Moyo would rise and take up the challenge to keep his father's legacy alive. Peter was thrust in in a huff to stand for his father during his last days on earth. The younster quickly learnt the ropes and stood in his father's very BIG shoes. Since then Peter has never looked back.

Last week on saturday, Peter had a show at Mverechena Night Club in Domboshawa. Having heard great reviews from show promoters and music critics, i decided to drive all the way to see the young Igwe in action. Apart from the late start, when Peter got to the stage he started churning hit after hit to the expectant small crowd that had gathered in the night club.

Peter played for four hours without stopping only taking a breather here and there. Utakataka Express was a marvel to watch as the guys showcased a new dance routine and showed great choreographic skills. The guy playing bass guitar for the Utakataka Express is a marvel to watch. He is somebody who has the traits and skills to fill Macheso's shoes. The youngman has great guitar playing skills.

What i witnessed on Saturday confirms the youngman's status as a true hier to his father's crown. Peter also played a snippet from his own work coming up later in the year. What i heard promisses to be a good offering from the young igwe. The sky is the limit for this young man.
