The much publicised Gweru showcase pitting Peter Moyo aka “Igwe” and dancing queen Beverly Sibanda on Friday sent audiences wild. Moyo, had however, threatened to cancel the concert because he did not want to share the stage with Sibanda, popularly known as Bev.
There have been rumours that Moyo was dating Bev, a thing the young Igwe dismissed while Bev seemed to be giving indications that there might be something going on. In an interview with the Daily News, Moyo refuted rumors that he was dating Bev, citing that he is in a relationship with someone else.
“The rumors that l am dating Bev are misleading. l have got a girlfriend, my relatives know her and her parents know me. The relationship is on solid rock, but at the moment l am not ready to announce her to the public,” Moyo said.
Although Peter finds Bev an irritation and wanted her away, promoters were the ones bringing them together. A promoter for this particular concert, Luckmore Matsungi confirmed Moyo’s earlier threats to cancel the concert should he be sharing the stage with Bev.
“There was a time when all was set and the posters were in the street and he said he was calling off the show because he did not want to be associated with the dancing queen. l had to persuade him to put their differences aside so they shared the stage,” said Matsungi.
While all is not well between Moyo and Bev, the two might be meeting in future engagements as both are stars in their different disciplines. There is nowhere you can ignore Bev as a dancer, and equally Moyo is doing wonders with his music.
Back to the Gweru concert, it was a night of extravaganza as Moyo alongside Ronnie Mudhindo and Bev turned the Midlands Hotel into a den of spectacle. It was all fun fairs with classic stage dancing antics and memorable theatrics that sent Gweru revelers into a joyous mood.
Hosted by Matsungi the Friday all-night gig woke up the otherwise sleepy city of Gweru. First on the stage was the much talked about Sexy Angels led by Sibanda better known as Bev. Apparently Bev who was performing outside the capital on a commercial gig for the first time proved why she has turned out to be one of the much sought-after dancers in the country’s entertainment industry.
Apparently attracted by sexy dances, men in particular could be seen jostling to get a close glimpse of the superb acts. Soon after the dances it was for the former Utakataka Express bass guitarist and band manager, Mudhindo who is now leading the Orchestra Vazvamburi.
While Mudhindo was not that popular with the revelers, his dancing group managed to captivate the revelers as they paved way for the much prized young Igwe. In a show of how popular his late father was, the house was brought down when the young Igwe strode onto the stage.
Clad in a simple charismatic outfit, the young man has proven that smartness runs in the Moyo family. Peter’s relaxed and down- to-earth character resembles his father the late and it has turned to be more than just a brand.
Peter opened his showcase with the hit song Vana Vangu Handidi Navo which opened the floodgates for more Dhewa hits. The void left by former band members Shiga Shiga and Spencer Kumbulani could not be felt as the youthful front man commanded his crew skillfully. Culled from Newsday
