Rising dendera star Tryson Chimbetu has started giving back to the community by offering students guitar lessons. Chimbetu, who resides in Glen View, is mentoring over 25 pupils at Glen View High 1 in music lessons.
Speaking in an interview last week, Chimbetu said the move was a social responsibility. This is the society that raised me and they are also supporting me as their son so I saw it fit to give something back to this community, said Chimbetu.
The pupils expressed interest in music by making contributions and buying four guitars, something even established bands have failed to do, so it motivated me into playing my part. He said the effort by the pupils was encouraging and he was happy that most of the students were learning fast.
One of the students in the music class who happens to be Chimbetus sister Mirriam, expressed enthusiasm over the lessons saying they were very helpful. We used to envy schools like Prince Edward that have successful Jazz bands year-in year-out and we just thought it fit to commit ourselves to the lessons, said Mirriam.
There is nothing that can stop anyone from achieving their goals as long as they are focused and I am happy that Tryson has offered a helping hand.
She is one of the potential success stories at the school and has has already proven to have mastered some of the skills. Mirriam has played the bass guitar at a few shows with her brother getting applause from people like talented guitarist Alick Macheso. Culled from Newsday
