Tryson Chimbetu says he abandoned his dream of becoming a lawyer to pursue music. “ I was in high school doing arts with the intention of enrolling as a law student with the University of Zimbabwe,” he says adding that when his father, Naison passed away he knew that he had to carry on with his music legacy. But he said “the dream has, however, not collapsed, I’m still going to register for business law with Unisa.”

ARMCHAIR critics who doubted that young dendera musician Tryson Chimbetu’s time as the heir-apparent to the throne has come were left with second thoughts after the musician silenced them with a scintillating act at the Uhuru Concert in Harare.

The concert pitted some of the country’s finest musicians but the young prodigy sprung a big surprise that will remain etched in the minds of thousands of music lovers who were left clamouring for more.

Tryson gives back to community

Rising dendera star Tryson Chimbetu has started giving back to the community by offering students guitar lessons. Chimbetu, who resides in Glen View, is mentoring over 25 pupils at Glen View High 1 in music lessons.

DENDERA music has given birth to its first female musician in the form of Miriam Chimbetu, the last born of the late Naison’s children. Miriam (16) is the latest find in the Chimbetu family and has defied the gender stereotype by playing the bass guitar with finesse, a feat that has charmed music audiences at some of the shows held by her brother, Tryson.

Speaking for the first time since the media broke the story that his career hinged on Simon’s works, Tryson said he was his own man, adding that his brand had grown over the years.

Peter, Tryson unleashed! . . . as Beverly returns to City Sports Bar

YOUNG artistes Peter Moyo and Tryson Chimbetu will square off for the first time at Holly’s Hotel in Harare tomorrow. The gig is the second to be held at the hotel that recently received a facelift in order to cater for live performances. Peter and Tryson will clash after their impressive acts at the just-ended 21st February Movement Gala in Chipinge.

High riding dendera musician Tryson Chimbetu will tonight rock the popular joint City Sports Bar where for the first time he performs as a solo act. Over the years Tryson has been featuring as an opening act for sungura ace, Alick Macheso. The sungura musician had taken into his wings Tryson, who is always billed to warm up Mberikwazvo concerts.

In the process he has won himself the approval of many fans as he fights for recognition with the dendera music genre popularised by his late father, Naison and late uncle Simon. While Tryson was being groomed by Macheso, it would be interesting to see how the young dendera singer would fare when he takes over the night’s slot.
