Peter, Tryson unleashed! . . . as Beverly returns to City Sports Bar

YOUNG artistes Peter Moyo and Tryson Chimbetu will square off for the first time at Holly’s Hotel in Harare tomorrow. The gig is the second to be held at the hotel that recently received a facelift in order to cater for live performances. Peter and Tryson will clash after their impressive acts at the just-ended 21st February Movement Gala in Chipinge.

The duo proved to the nation that they have what it takes to be among the best in the industry. Peter has found a niche for himself in sungura music, where he has built a faithful fan base, while Tryson has also made a name for himself in dendera circles with his near-flawless acts. The show at Holly’s Hotel is also likely to be the acid test for the two as they will share the stage on their own without Alick Macheso and Oliver Mtukudzi, whom they have been curtain-raising for recently.

“We are expecting fireworks considering that this is the first that they (Peter and Tryson) will share the stage together without a big artiste. “They will be using the big hall called the Ban Hall at Holly’s Hotel because we are anticipating a large crowd to witness this gig by two of the country’s promising young musicians,” said Tatenda Paradzai, the entertainment manager of the hotel. Meanwhile, sensational dancer Bev — real name Beverly Sibanda — will tonight invade Destiny Night Club in Westlea.

The unofficial “queen of dance” will tomorrow make a welcome return to the City Sports Bar by public demand, although she is in for tough competition from Bulawayo-based dance outfit Girls La Musica in tour.
The show has been described as a “Clash of the Cities”, considering that Bev has taken Harare by storm while Girls La Musica are a force to reckon with in Bulawayo. Fronted by one Priscilla, Girls La Musica are not new to entertainment circles, being one of the leading dance groups in the country in the same league with Mambokadzi, Banyana Bafana, Amavhitikazi and Manjenje, among others.

Also to look forward to will be the two album launches by Zimbabwean artistes based in the Diaspora that will take place in Harare tonight. The first launch will be by United Kingdom-based apostolic gospel outfit Masowe Echishanu UK, who will unveil the DVD package of their album “Yeso Arikushevedza” at the Rainbow Towers at 6pm. The album caused a stir on Zimbabwe’s radio’s stations last year, announcing the group as one of the apostolic music groups to seriously contend with.

The DVD album is of international appeal and videos to look forward to include “Simabhi usandikanganwe”, “Yeso Arikushevedza”, “iHossana Hossana”, “Handidi Kuenda Kugomba Remoto” and “iHossana Hossana” remix. On the other hand, South African-based gospel musician Otis Mahlatsi, will also be launching his nine-track album titled “Mwari Anoziva” at Upper Crust Restaurant at the corner of First Street and Jason Moyo Avenue in Harare tonight.

The launch will start at 5pm. Marketed and distributed by Diamond Studios, the album carries tracks like “Mwari Anoziva”, “Haukumbire”, “Vachida Vasingade”, “Ali-Ali”, “Mwari Vangu” and “Muupenyu” among others. The album is already receiving considerable airplay on local airwaves. Otis’ music career started in the AFM Church in 1994 after being inspired by the likes of Pastor Charles Charamba, among others.
