2012 BET Awards: Kanye and Beyonce lead in nominations

Kanye West and Beyonce are the leading nominees for the 2012 BET Awards, with West nabbing seven nominations — five with Jay-Z as the Throne and two solo mentions. Following behind Yeezy is Beyonce with six nods, including two in the Video of the Year category for ‘Love on Top’ and ‘Countdown.’
Rap superstar Drake snagged four nominations including Best Male Hip-Hop Artist and Best Collaboration for ‘The Motto’ (with Tyga and Lil Wayne). Chart-topping artists Big Sean, Miguel, Chris Brown and Lil Wayne all received three mentions apiece.
Actor Samuel L. Jackson has been tapped to host this year’s awards ceremony, which will take place on July 1 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. So far, Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown are scheduled to perform at the event. In addition, the BET Awards will present Maze featuring Frankie Beverly with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
