Kawara to shine at Flavour gig

Flavour
One of Zimbabwe’s seasoned contemporary artiste, Alexio Kawara, will this month raise his profile high, when he curtain raises for Nigerian musician Chinedu Okoli known in entertainment circles as Flavour. The gig will take place on May 25, at the Andy Millar Hall in Harare.

The decision by the promoters of the show to include the young crooner was based on merit, saying they felt that Alexio continues to improve his brand on a daily basis. Show organiser Joseph Habis said Alexio’s music has matured like the proverbial wine.“He already had a lot of fans when he used to sing urban grooves back then, and his clientele continues to grow now that he is singing contemporary music.

“The beauty about his music is that it is solid, and has got a message,” he said. Alexio has been one of the most consistent young musicians and his music has come of age since he burst on the music scene with the group Guest at the turn of the century. Kawara, who is an Afro-fusion musician, has a number of hit tracks that include “Shaina”, “Tinodanana”, that he did with Tererai Mugwadi, and “Kana”.

On the day of the show, Alexio will have an opportunity to learn from one of Zimbabwe’s music superstar, Oliver Mtukudzi, whose popularity seems to be growing day by day. Tuku seems to be enjoying a purple patch, following his mesmerising performance at the just-ended Harare International Festival of the Arts, where he shared the stage with Senegal music icon Ismael Lo.

With 60 albums to his name, Tuku — who turns 60 in September — is a legendary musician who needs no introduction on both local and international scenes. In fact, many people expect him to put up a good performance when he goes on stage with Flavour.

What, however, many fans are already anticipating is Flavour’s performance here in Harare.
The Nigerian singer is currently riding high with several hit songs that include “Nwa Baby” (Sawale), “Adanma” and “Oyi”, which are receiving heavy rotation on local radio stations, in clubs and at almost every party in town. Flavour is a high-life soul, hip hop artiste who hails from eastern Nigeria. Herald
