Sawale hit-maker to perform in Harare

Oliver Mtukudzi and Flavour
Popular Nigerian musician Flavour Nabania (real name Chinedu Okoli) well-known for hit Sawale is set to perform at Andy Millar on May 25. Flavour Nabania is expected to share the stage with superstar Oliver Mtukudzi and Alexio Kawara.

Show organisers said they wanted to break a monotony of having Jamaican reggae musicians flooding international shows in the country. “Our research revealed people are now tired of dancehall and South African artistes, so we have decided to divert from what they have had so far.

We have not seen a Nigerian musician performing in the country and this is an opportunity for local fans to see how musicians from that side perform,” said one of the organisers.

“Flavour has taken the world by storm with his hit Nwa Babe (popularly known as Sawale) and his performance in Zimbabwe will mean a lot to his local fans.” His hit song Sawale has taken the country by storm and it has proved to be most people’s favourite.

He has also done other popular songs that include Adanma and Oyi on which he collaborated with a Mozambican musician. Flavour Nabania is currently signed to 2nite Entertainment Music Label and his breakthrough came in 2010 when he released his second album, Uplifted, which carries most of his hits.

He got involved in music at the age of 13 when he started playing drums for his church choir in Enugu. In 1996, he enrolled for a diploma in music and started playing drums professionally. In 1999, he enhanced his career by playing drums.

He also used to provide backing vocals for other musicians at Sound City Studio to which he was signed. In 2010 Flavour Nabia travelled to the United States where he performed in several cities. He has also toured Europe performing in countries like Italy, Germany and Switzerland. On November 11 2011 he performed at the Channel O Music Video Awards in South Africa, an award ceremony in which his hit song Nwa Babe received two nominations.

In February this year he made his first trip to the United Kingdom where he performed at the Nigerian Kings of Comedy show in both London and Manchester. Other countries in which the artist has performed in include Malaysia, Uganda, Kenya, Congo, Ghana, Botswana and Rwanda.

His song Nwa Babe has taken the local clubbing scene by storm and he is likely to make a good combination with Mtukudzi and Kawara. He is currently touring the US. Newsday
