Massive turnout at Beer Fest in Harare

REGGAE music still commands a huge following in Zimbabwe if the turnout at the Lion Lager Summer Beer Festival at the Glamis Stadium is anything to go by. Reminiscent of the 1980 Independence bash held at Rufaro Stadium featuring the legendary Robert Nester Marley or simply Bob Marley, this year's "Lion Lager Summer Beer Fest" confirmed the longheld view that Zimbabwe is in a class of its own, musically that is. Just like the late great Bob Marley, Cocoa Tea who was one of the headliners at the festival, opened his act with a rendition of the song "Zimbabwe" as a tribute to the country and the huge turnout amid fireworks that lit up the skies.

Beres Hammond No show at Lion Lager Beer Festival

THE 2011 edition of the Lion Lager Beer Festival was dampened by the absence of Jamaican music legend Beres Hammond who was billed to perform alongside his countrymen, Cocoa Tea and Fantan Mojah, but he did not pitch up.

Delta Beverages marketing manager Ms Patricia Murambinda said they lost touch with Hammond on Thursday, although his band arrived yesterday. “Everything was in order, but we lost contact with Beres due to a mix-up in communication. He moved from his base in Jamaica to London for some performances last week,” she said.

Bless up the night Rasta!!!

NOT since Sunsplash '89 at the National Sports Stadium have Zimbabwe's reggae lovers had the privilege of having three Superstars sharing the same stage on local soil. But courtesy of the Lion Lager Reggae Festival the country's reggae fans will be rocking away to the sounds of Beres Hammond, Cocoa Tea and Fantan Mojah at the Glamis Arena tonight.

It is exactly 22 years since Ijahman Levi, Eric Donaldson and Culture graced the same stage at the Sunsplash show that remains a memorable event to many a mature reggae lover. The late great Joseph Hill, fronting Culture brought the curtain down on that memorable night in 1989 with his band playing until the run rose after taking to the stage shortly before 3.30pm. Sandwiched between Culture's energetic performance and Eric Donaldson act was the serenading Ijahman of the "Are We a Warrior fame''.

In essence, it will be an unprecedented cross-cultural nightlife experience shared by millions of people.

Legends spice up Zim’s biggest reggae party

                                                              Fantan Mojah
Music lovers unsure whether or not to attend the annual Lion Lager Beer Festival, on saturday, have been assured that none of them will be turned away as happened at last year's event. Scores of reggae fans failed to watch Beanie Man after Old Hararians Sports Club proved too small to host the hundreds of fans who thronged the club in 2010.

Police had to be vigilant as some fans tried to force their way in, with some falling victims to vicious police dogs. Lion Lager brand manager Sandra Madovi said Delta Beverages had learnt from their mistakes and thus had picked the Glamis Arena as the ideal venue. "Glamis has a capacity of 35 000 so definitely the unfortunate events we witnessed last year will not be repeated.

Solo Festival - 25 Artists line-up!

NORTON – At least 25 artists across art forms are performing at this year’s edition of the annual SPAR Solo Festival Pakare Paye in Norton on Saturday 3 December 2011.

Unlike previous years when we featured only local artists, this year we are happy to say the arts fiesta has attracted international and regional artists. And even more, the festival is truly representative of the people of our nation as it is multi-racial too. We will soon be announcing the rest of the names of the performing artists for this year. But as you may know by now we have already confirmed the participation of SA’s Steve Dyer and Kenya’s Suzanna Owiyo.

Jamaican Artists ready to add verve to Lion Lager Summer Beer Festival

This year's Lion Lager Summer Beer Festival is three times bigger and three times better than the previous editions. To sum it all, the action, music and excitement have more than quadrupled. The Glamis Arena, this year's venue of the fiesta, is three times bigger than the traditional Harare Sports Club and the three headliners Beres Hammond, Cocoa T and Fantan Mojah, all from Jamaica, have added verve to what may already have been a star-studded concert.

The Lion Lager Summer Beer Festival has become a must-attend event on the calendar with such acts as Beenie Man having graced the previous shows. This year's gig slated for Saturday is just too good to miss.
Of course, Zimbabwean musicians among them Winky D and Mic Inity are expected to curtain raise for the Jamaicans. A surprise act is Suluman Chimbetu who by virtue of being a sungura artiste, is expected to break the reggae monotony.
