Solo Festival - 25 Artists line-up!

NORTON – At least 25 artists across art forms are performing at this year’s edition of the annual SPAR Solo Festival Pakare Paye in Norton on Saturday 3 December 2011.

Unlike previous years when we featured only local artists, this year we are happy to say the arts fiesta has attracted international and regional artists. And even more, the festival is truly representative of the people of our nation as it is multi-racial too. We will soon be announcing the rest of the names of the performing artists for this year. But as you may know by now we have already confirmed the participation of SA’s Steve Dyer and Kenya’s Suzanna Owiyo.
We also have young artists from South Africa in line with our vision to develop young talent. In the same vein Pakare Paye Arts Centre also provides the platform for all ages of upstarts seeking to grow their individual talents. This year our programme features mainly music, dance, poetry, story-telling, instrumentation, drama, comedy and martial arts.

Away from purely entertainment and fun on the Saturday, we have added another day to the festival for a training workshop for young artists. We will again soon be releasing the details.

The solo festival was founded by Oliver Mtukudzi whose idea was to provide a forum for individual artists to develop more confidence and faith in themselves and master the art of performing individually as solo talent and still entertain and make a living.

We started the solo festival as a self-sponsored project funded by Mtukudzi five years ago but we are growing now with the kind support of partners in the corporate sector. The SPAR Guild of Grocers is our main partner. – Courtesy of tukumusik.com
