Eulogies Continue to pour in for Sungura Maestro - Dhewa


MUSIC fans from Mashonaland East Province have described the death of veteran Sungura artist, Tongai Moyo, as a big loss not only to the local music industry, but to the country as a whole. A couple of months ago, Dhewa said in an interview that although he was indeed battling with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, his condition had become unpredictable.

Music fans from all walks of life continue to mourn the death of Sungura maestro Tongai Moyo, who was affectionately known by his multitudes of fans as Dhewa or Muchina Muhombe. He rose to fame in the late 1980s as a solo artist before the formation of the Utakataka Express. His hits such as Vimbo, Samanyemba, Ndoita Zvangu Ndoga and Pinda Panyanya among others took the country by storm.

At the time of his death, Dhewa was a singer, songwriter, dancer and choreographer who was dearly loved whenever he was live on stage and off-stage. Dhewa will be buried in his home village of Sisombe in Zhombe on Tuesday.
