The world famous Zimbabwean celebration ‘Zimfest’ will finally be held in Zimbabwe before the end of the year after years of the festival religiously being held in cities like London, Perth, Cape Town and Toronto. Set for December 10, 2011 at the Greendale Country Club, Zimbabweans from all walks of life will have an opportunity to come together and celebrate their heritage.
The setting shall be a great family day outing, starting from midday onwards, with plenty of entertainment for all, including rides for the kids and fun competitions and raffles going on throughout the day.
Guy Cockcroft the project coordinator for the festival urged Zimbabweans to support the Zimfest’s great cause, which wherever it is held in the world, it has always been to aid Zimbabwean charities. The Harare festival will not be any different as earnings from the day would be spread across three different charities, WeZimbabwe - which supports local humanitarian and children’s charities across the country. A third of the earnings will also be going to Homes in Zimbabwe, which support Old Age pensioner organizations such as S.O.A.P., whilst the 3rd cause that will receive support is the Anti-Poaching units of the Victoria Falls and Kariba.

Apart from bringing people together and supporting local charities, Zimfest has always been about helping the community by supporting and exposing local Zimbabwean artists, whether in London, Australia or right here in Zimbabwe - there are always Zimbabwean bands, solo artists, and Dj’s making a name for themselves. This year, the lineup will consists of all of Harare’s most popular musicians and acts to entertain all day and night. The acts will include the famous Evicted, our very own Ryan Koriya (from Mann Friday), Mnandi (from the Book Café), Rockafella, Fraser Mackay, Josh Ansley, DJ Macson and the up-and-coming DJ Hurricane.
Another way that Zimfest supports the local community is by hosting a marketplace where small home enterprises can come, showcase, and set up stalls at the event. Zimfest at the moment is after donations of prizes, and sponsorship of services required at the event. To get more information on Zimfest, you can contact Guy on guy@kurumidza.com.- Zimbo Jam
