SUPERSTAR Oliver Mtukudzi continues with his mission to serenade his fans outside Harare and this time the Katekwe exponent heads to Mutare for the "Kumakomoyo - Mutare Kacha" at Mutare Polytechnic College tomorrow. This will be Tuku's second biggest gig in a space of three months after his five star performance at Rimuka Stadium, Kadoma in August. Music lovers at the stadium got their money's worth as Sulumane Chimbetu and Bruce Mpofu provided cover for Mtukudzi. Now the line-up has changed and his protégé, Munya Mataruse and Mutare-based urban groover Jusa Mupositori, will support Mtukudzi while Bruce Mpofu also makes a comeback. Blessing Jeke of Proma Events, who are organising the show, said the countrywide tours with Tuku are a way of bringing the veteran artiste right to the people's doorsteps. "As Proma Events we have embarked on countrywide tours with Tuku and this is one way of bringing their favourite artiste right to their doorsteps.
"In Mutare, we are promising fireworks and although he will be performing in an open space there will be no rain fears since there is a large hall at the same venue," Jeke said. The superstar will without doubt play some of golden hits like "Mutserendende", "Tozeza Baba" and "Ziwere". But those who are in love with songs from his two latest albums, this will be an opportunity for them to sample the best of Katekwe.
While Tuku will without doubt, be the main act, young artiste Munya Mataruse will want to prove that he is not riding on Tuku's coat-strings but is gradually becoming his own man with each outing and what a better way of doing that than before a new crowd far away from his usual haunting haunts in Harare.
Bruce Mpofu, on the other hand, has easily stepped into his late father - Paul Mpofu's - shoes and is leading the Zambuko Band playing some of his father's hits like "Murambinda", "Ndakuvara Musoro" and "Mapepa Enyika" among others. Meanwhile, Dendera musician Allan Chimbetu also continues his countrywide tours and tonight the "Sony" hitmaker will invade Chinotimba Stadium in Victoria Falls.
Allan will use the show to sample songs from his soon-to-be-released album. He will then head to Insomnia Pub and Grill in Hwange tomorrow for a potentially explosive gig before winding up with an act in Mkoba in
Gweru. Leonard Zhakata plays at Eddie's Kite in Chegutu tomorrow. (Herald)
