Betting on his influence in the Chinese speaking world, Brazilian jet maker Embraer has hired Jackie Chan to promote its commercial jets in Asia and the deal comes with a customized plane. While Embraer said Chan 'bought' the plane in its press release, some media outlets suggested that the sales price had been heavily discounted.

Embraer delivered the customized Legacy 650 to the Hong Kong-born actor on Saturday in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It had been painted in the colours of the Chinese flag. To celebrate the occasion, Embraer executives toasted the Rush Hour star with a round of Champaign. Chan, who's been named Embraer's ambassador in China, will assist the Company in promoting its entire line of executive aircraft. During his visit, the actor posed for pictures and shot a commercial for Embraer, which is the world's fourth largest aircraft company.

Naturally, Chan threw in an enthusiastic plug for the company. 'I am honoured to join the Embraer Legacy 650 family of users,' Chan said. 'I believe that Embraer is poised to become a major player in the Chinese executive jet market and thrilled to fulfil my role as brand ambassador for this great Company.' The action star will fly out of Brazil on board his swanky 14 seater plane which is said to be worth $30 million.

According to local media reports, Chan has learned basic flying skills, but he cannot fly a plane on his own.
Embraer Chairman Frederico Curado said the company hopes Chan's endorsement will help more Asian people come to understand its products. (Dailynews UK)
