Tuku, Stunner in Byo this weekend

Urban grooves rapper, Stunner, will get an opportunity to share the stage with the Granddad of Zimbabwean music, Oliver Mtukudzi as the duo perform in Bulawayo at the Large City Hall on Friday.

The visit by Harare-based artistes comes barely two weeks after a memorable top-billing concert by South African pop sensation Zahara. Hardcore World Entertainment promoter, Tich Mavinyo said he was privileged to once again bring the music legend to the City of Kings.

“I am privileged to bring back Mdhara here in Bulawayo. I feel he also likes this place more than he does any other in the country. If you remember very well last year he chose to celebrate his 59th birthday here at a show that was held at the same venue,” said Mavinyo of Tuku.

“But besides our job is to bring the artistes who are always on people’s lips entertainment is circles and I think it is an open secret that Mdhara will always leave others chasing for the second place. “But we also respect the fact that some listen to other types of music hence we chose to bring along Stunner to cater for the youths and Vibe Stars for the rhumba enthusiasts,” Mavinyo added.

Desmond Chideme aka Stunner is currently riding on the popular hit-track Godo, is also expected to rise to the occasion with some of his classic hits attached to his name. Bulawayo’s own rhumba Kings Vibe Stars Musica though not very popular is expected to lay down a red carpet for Tuku with their Congolese-fused act.

“This is really going to be a big event for us as it will be first time to share the stage with a musician of Tuku’s calibre. Of course we have previously curtain raised for other big artistes like the late Tongai Moyo, Nicholas Zacharia and Cephas Mashakada among others but to us this is the biggest of them all,” said Jackson Kasvosve, Vibes Stars Musica leader.

But all the focus will be on the Tozeza Baba hit-maker. At 59, Tuku has 60 recorded musical albums in a career dating back to the pre-independence era and as always he is expected to belt out some of his classic numbers from way back to date.

For three times that Tuku performed in the second largest city last year, once at Large City Hall and twice at Amphitheatre, he attracted full houses — an indication that the age-defying musician is well-liked in almost every corner of the country.  (Dailynews)
