Loliwe hitmaker, Zahara flies off to SA, then back later in BYO

Zahara
Popular South African musician, Zahara is said to fly back to South Africa today for a connecting flight to Bulawayo, highlighting the chaotic situation in Zimbabwe’s aviation industry. The Loliwe hitmaker performed in Harare Friday night, but has to return to her home country to get a flight to Zimbabwe’s second city.
With the national airline, Air Zimbabwe grounded, there are no flight linking Harare and Bulawayo. The alternative for the 24 year old, who had performed in front of a sell out crowd is to take the 439 kilometre road journey, from Harare to Bulawayo. She is set to perform in Bulawayo on Sunday afternoon at Bulawayo Athletic Club.

An after party is planned at Jock and Saddle where she will share the stage with star mbira musician Chiwoniso Maraire, who celebrates her birthday on that day. The talented Eastern Cape-born singer and songwriter has taken South Africa’s music scene by storm with her 12-track album, Loliwe (train in the Xhosa language).

The title-track is a mid-tempo song featuring former Big Brother Africa housemate Luclay. Another song titled Lengoma features her producer, DJ Sbu. Other tracks on the album are Umthwalo, Xa Bendingena Mama, Ndize, Inwadencane, My Guitar, Thekwane, Away, Brand New Day and Shine.

The album, which went platinum, just 13 days after its release last year, is a mixture of neo-soul and Afro-pop sounds. So far, Zahara, who is signed under TS Records, has scooped various awards, performed at international events and featured on Nhlanhla Ncizas DVD. (Byo24)
