Flavour’s Zimbabwe tour comes hard on the heels of his recent trip to Canada where he is said to have given good performances throughout his three-week stay in that country.So naturally, his fans here expect him to continue with his feat, which has earned him a pole position in both Nigerian and Zimbabwean charts from the time he released the hit song, “Nxa Baby (Sawale)”
Flavour has got a wide fan base here in Zimbabwe made up mainly of his homeboys and girls as well as Zimbabweans who like his type of music. The collaboration of the three artistes, who hail from different backgrounds and also play diverse genres, is expected to draw a cosmopolitan crowd, who are also expected to use this gig to measure each of the artistes level of ingenuity.
The three — Flavour, Tuku and Alexio — will naturally use the gig to measure their popularity among the music fans. For a person like Tuku, the show is expected to further reinforce his talent that has seen him play at both local and international platform, without any problem. Those in the know can safely attest that Tuku is a truly great guitarist, vocalist, performer and composer. He must be one of the few people to have a beat named after him: “Tuku”!
This came about purely from his fans and Tuku stresses that he was the last to know. The unique Tuku beat comes from a blend of Zimbabwean mbira with the faster Zulu township mbaqanga. Oliver started out as a professional musician when he joined the Wagon Wheels in 1977. Now, with his own band The Black Spirits, his appealing voice, captivating guitar rhythms and superb dance moves his live performances really become fantastic to experience.
With 60 albums to his name, he has remained a consistent performer and people should expect nothing short of fireworks when he goes on stage tonight. On the other hand, Alexio is also another talented musician, who has got a number of hit tracks to his name. Alexio is a holder of five awards from both the Zimbabwe Music Awards (Zima) and the National Arts Merit Awards (Nama).
The awards include Best Urban Grooves Male Artiste, Best Song of the Year, Outstanding Song which he won for “Tinodanana” and “Shaina” and Outstanding Album of the Year for his third album Pfimbi Yangu. While he began as part of a group called Guess? of the “Amai” fame, Alexio has four albums to his name which are “Usazondisiya” (2001), “Rwiyo Rwangu” (2003), “Pfimbi Yangu” (2006) and “Kana” (2008).
Since the emergence of the urban groove genre, many youthful singers have come and gone with some topping the charts before disappearing into oblivion. For Kawara, time has helped him up his game, especially by switching from computer-generated music to live instruments. Flavour will add the cherry on the cake, when he gets on stage to sing some of his hit songs that include “Nwa Baby”, “Adanma” and “Oyi”. Herald

TWO of the Zimbabwe’s prominent musicians, Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi and Alexio Kawara, are tonight set to illuminate Harare when they host Nigerian artiste Flavour at a high-octane gig slated for Andy Millar Hall tonight. Flavour, born Okoli Chinedu, a well-known hip-hop and contemporary musician, will cement his romance with the Zimbabwean populace with a one-off special show at the joint.
The contemporary artiste, who released a video titled “Flavour’s Message 2 Zimbabwe,” said he was ready to rock Harare. It remains to be seen if he will indeed put his artistic excellence at display when he goes on stage to serenade revellers who have been waiting for this show for months.
