BBA's Wendall Parson Donates to charity

Karen and Wendall Joint BBA Winners
Big Brother Amplified winner Wendall Parson last week donated three goats to the Harare Children’s Home. Wendall said he purchased the goats and had them slaughtered, skinned and cut into portions before presenting the meat to the home. “I have been making donations to the home for the past months. I had not made any donations in the past two weeks so I decided to donate the goats for the children’s relish,” said Wendall.

Harare Children’s Home accommodates 104 children. Wendall has since adopted the children’s home as his charity cause, in the process collaborating with the corporate world for donations. He wishes to hold a Christmas party for the children and has high hopes of fund-raising for the event. The trained pilot won a grand prize of $200 000 as the co-winner of BBA and was also given $50 000 by President Mugabe for doing the country proud.

He however told this paper at that time that he will not use his money for aid but will use his name and platform to gather funds for charity. Wendall recently travelled to Kenya on a charity business involving other former housemates. The housemates were raising funds for children affected by Jigger that Wendall described as a bug that infects mainly the hands before affecting the whole body.

“Samsung was the main sponsor and we managed to raise a couple of thousands for the cause.”  Plans are underway to bring former BBA housemates to Harare soon on a charity mission. Wendall said the visit is being organised by a certain Harare company and details would be made available. Next week Wendall will take a lady in the name of Beulah to dinner at an upmarket restaurant Victoria 22 in Newlands, Harare.

“On Saturday last week, there was an event organised by River of Life Church at 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale called One Night with Wendall. I spoke to the youths on temptations, alcohol, drugs and all kinds of stuff that affects them. After the event there was a draw and this lady Beulah won a dinner with me next week.” Wendall said the two would be picked separately by a limousine to the plush restaurant to enjoy a meal and good talk.

The 24-year-old aviator will from Tuesday be engaged in charity work with an aviation company called Fresh Air which is offering children a unique opportunity to experience and enjoy the thrill and awe of flying from Harare to Masvingo and a chance to tour the Great Zimbabwe.

Fresh Air said: “We hope the trip will spark the children’s imagination and inspire hard work ethics as well as being a fun and memorable learning experience. Zimbabwe’s own BBA 2011 winner, Wendall, will be on board to meet, greet and play host for the entire tour.” Wendall who recently passed his conversion test from Australian qualifications to Zimbabwean said he will fly a Fresh Air plane for charity but he is still routing his luck to fly for Air Zimbabwe.

Two Zimbabweans, Wendall and Vimbai Mutinhiri were the country’s BBA housemates. The two had a friendship in the reality show and were even once thought to be in love. They disputed ever being in love saying they were just friends. When the two came out of the House they had a luncheon with President Mugabe, they promised to do projects together in post interviews with the press.

Vimbai was given $10 000 for her participation in Big Brother and for flying the Zimbabwean flag high. She has since been involved in charity work and her own perfume, music, modelling and reality show projects. Surprisingly the two have not collaborated on charity projects. Wendall said this was not due to anything else other than different areas of passion. “Vimbai is into her modelling thing and other things and I am into aviation so our passions are different that’s why we have not worked together, but if an opportunity for a joint project arises then why not.”

Wendall who professed being a virgin and not dating although girls are knocking on his door said he will soon be rocking radio. “I will soon be on 3FM for three-hour shows on Tuesday and Friday. I will play music and engage with the youth. I like interaction and I also love music. My favourite is house and I also listen to local music. I love the urban grooves artist Stunner.” (DailyNews)
