Shiga Shiga to leave Utakataka Express - Peter Moyo

Peter Moyo and Alick Macheso
UTAKATAKA Express heir Peter Moyo yesterday confirmed that his chanter Gift “Shiga Shiga” Katulika and bassist Spencer Khumulani will soon be struck off his payroll as they insist on leaving the band. The 22-year-old also revealed that the two key band members have approached him seeking clearance to join other bands in search of greener pastures.

“I can confirm that Shiga Shiga and Spencer are on the verge of leaving Utakataka Express. “The duo approached me and I can’t block them if they have other dreams but I am aware that they won’t have the same freedom they had,” he said. However, Peter hailed Shiga and Spencer for their loyalty to his late father Tongai and him. “They were loyal to my father and I also had a good working relationship with them.

“We will be performing together for the next three or more weeks before they leave,” he said. Peter told H-Metro that his management was in the process of scouting for replacements. “We have been looking for suitable candidates since the beginning of the year. “We have quite a number of people interested but only a few will be chosen. “The successful candidates will commence rehearsals in February,” he added

However, Peter declined to comment where Shiga and Spencer were destined for. “I cannot speak on their behalf. The duo asked to leave and it was beyond my control. “Shiga and Spencer indicated that they were eyeing greener pastures,” he added. Word making rounds is that the duo will the joining the Real Sounds of Africa led by flamboyant rhumba musician Energy Mutodi. Mutodi’s band members are reportedly paid better remuneration among other benefits.
