Zimbabwean Film Director Wins international Award
Joe Njagu, one of Zimbabwe’s growing filmmakers, has made history by winning an international award at the American Film Festival. Njagu won the best director award for the movie The Gentleman released earlier this year. The movie had been nominated for two awards — best director and best cinematography in the foreign languages category with five other African films.

One of Zimbabwe’s latest feature films, The Gentleman, has broken new ground by being nominated for two awards at the American Film Festival. The movie entered the awards in the category of best foreign language film and was nominated for the best director and best cinematography awards. Speaking in an interview with NewsDay, Rufaro Kaseke, producer and cinematographer of the movie, said they were excited about the nominations.

A young up-and-coming Gweru based filmmaker Tinashe Innocent Mutero (25) has joined the spot light of blockbusters trends of the Zimbabwean film industry by launching his debut demonstrative drama piece called Vimbai’s Diary. Mutero who is among the pioneers Gweru’s fast booming film industry believes they are high prospects of becoming the best source of employment creation and melting pot of all forms of artistic works.

ZIMBABWE – The 2010 Big Brother Africa (BBA) finalist, Munyaradzi Chidzonga has been named as the highest paid actor in the recently premiered first Zimbabwean action drama, “The Gentleman.” Though the film producer, Rufaro Kaseke kept the amount paid to the two times reality show contender close to his chest, he however, disclosed to Shout-Africa that the movie had a total budget of US$120 000.

The phenomenal woman, who is currently riding high on the success of her latest feature film "Playing Warriors", said the television series is clear testimony of the abundant talent in Zimbabwe.

Rumbi Katedza to launch Film in Harare on 28 October
After seven years of work, Playing Warriors , a feature-length film written and directed by NAMA award winning film maker, Rumbi Katedza, premieres at the 7 Arts theatre Playing Warriors is a sexy comedy with a social conscience. The film focuses on the lives of four friends – modern young women in the city – and how they struggle to find a balance between the traditional expectations of their parents and society whilst balancing their own dreams.
Set against the backdrop of Nyarai’s (Kudzai Sevenzo) romantic escapades with her toyboy Che and her more mature and financially stable older boyfriend, Leslie, the film takes us on a journey of discovery of what it means to be a modern woman. Nyarai and her friends need to figure the direction to take their lives, without simultaneously upsetting too many people.

Phillip Chiyangwa and Wife steal show at Film Premier
The old saying states that behind every successful man, is a woman, at least that’s what film buffs witnessed when Phillip Chiyangwa turned up at the weekend with his wife Elizabeth at 7 Arts Theatre for the premiere of “The Gentleman”. The flamboyant businessman and his wife put on the style and stole the thunder from the rest of the cast as they strutted on the red carpet rolled out to guests as well as the cast.
Despite playing a cameo role in the film, Chiyangwa, enjoyed his moments at the premiere amid loud cheers from the audience. Liz wore an exclusive green designer dress and neatly braided hair while Chiyangwa put on a shiny black tuxedo. Chiyangwa made his big screen debut in the latest Zimbabwean film “The Gentleman” where he acted as a filthy rich businessman Mr Rogers based in South Africa.

Mercy Johnson and John Dumelo to attend AAMMA Awards in Australia
Top African actors, John Dumelo and Mercy John will join a host of celebs as special guests at the 3rd edition of the Afro Australian Music And Movie Awards (AAMMA) slated for Sydney, Australia on October 15.
The award ceremony which will be hosted at the Enmore Theatre, Newtown Sydney will also see appearances from Pascal Atuma, Awilo Longomba, NSW Opposition Leader MP John Robertson, Nigerian High Commissioner, Ayo Olukanni, Desmond Elliot and Laj.
