SUNGURA Masters, a group from Bulawayo, on Sunday night outshone Alick “Extra Basso” Macheso’s dancers when they put up a strong 10-minute performance.
Fresh from his tour of the United Kingdom, Extra Basso’s show was held at popular nightspot Jabula Inn and about 300 people braved the cold weather to come and dance the night away.
A notable absentee was controversial dancer and former street kid Peter Kagomera who was reported to be in remand prison. Kagomera was arrested for allegedly biting a police officer in a bid to avoid arrest at Chillers Bottle Store at Ziko Shopping Centre in Chitungwiza on 30 June and his court case was postponed to Thursday.
His absence from the show was evident and it was clear that there was a missing link in the Mberikwazvo dance routine. There was a major difference when the Sungura Masters went on stage.
The six-member group comprising three male and three female dancers showed why their name suggests superiority to other groups with highly energetic dances that brought cheers from fans that had come to see Extra Basso. The three female dancers in thigh- and belly button-revealing green and white outfits got on stage for about two minutes. Their gyrations left male fans in awe and begging for them to come back on stage.
