AFFABLE Utakataka Express heir Peter Moyo is elated about his latest acquisition. The young Igwe is now rolling in a white tinted Honda Avantage which he purchased a fortnight ago. The 22-year-old paraded his model at Extra Mile Leisure Spot on Friday where he shared the stage with Oliver Mtukudzi and rhumba musician Energy Mutodi. 

A bubbling Peter told H-Metro that he foresees a bright future even without his dad. “It’s my new car. “I bought it two weeks ago from my twin-friends Calisto and Chris in Kwekwe. “It cost US$7 500 and my uncle Knowledge Chosa helped me to settle the full amount. “The band uses the other Chariot and I thought it was good to get something of my own,” he said

Willom Tight's son ventures into Music

Willom Tight's musical fortunes is waning, he has been very quiet. During his days he churned beautiful afro centric jazz tunes such as 'Ndinoda Wangu" is a melodious song with sweet backing vocals. His collaboration with Dino Mudondo saw them churning many hits that took the Zimbabwean music by storm. 

His only son Gary has burst on the musical scene and is determined to ensure that this dad's musical flame keeps on flickering. The 16-year-old gwenyambira is surely on a mission if his achievements to date, hopes and aspirations are anything to go by. Gary has assembled an eight-piece boy band, Zion Originated which plays Afro-jazz acoustics.

RISING DENDERA music exponent Tryson “Dr Nero” Chimbetu has every reason to be ecstatic! The 23-year-old singer begins the festive season on a high note after being accorded a slot in the much-hyped Titanic Clash headlined by Alick Macheso and Oliver Mtukudzi on Friday night at Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex. 

Although the attention would be on Tuku and Macheso, it should be mentioned that Tryson Chimbetu has the potential to steal the show judging by his current form.

In an interview with H-Metro, Tryson who is likely to be the opening act, said: “I can’t wait for the show. I am full of energy and I have reserved everything for the special day. “It’s a big event because both artistes (Tuku and Macheso) are crowd pullers and I feel I should prove a point. “I am humbled to be associated with the titans of Zimbabwean music.

Miss Harare Preps on

Preparations for this year's edition of the prestigious Miss Harare beauty pageant are at an advanced stage with the organisers promising a red carpet event. Running under the theme "I am Zimbabwean", the final showdown has been set for December 23, at the 7Arts Theatre in Avondale. The scouting phase which saw two rounds of auditions has been completed with 30 beauties making it into camp after going through an intense selection process.

Afro-Jazz diva Dudu Manhenga, whose road to music stardom saw her playing with various groups, has declared that she does not sing for the poor and is against her music being sold in the high density suburbs. Manhenga on Wednesday night told a Mbare Traders Association representative, Reason Zinyama, that she would rather not have her music sold in the high density suburbs because she sings for a certain niche not the generality of the poor.

Big Brother Winner Wendall appointed blood ambassador

Big Brother Africa winner Wendall Parson has encouraged youths and other members of the public to donate blood this festive season, and in future, to help improve blood bank supplies.  Wendall was appointed National Blood Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ) ambassador at a cocktail and Christmas Campaign launch held at a Harare hotel recently.

Parson said he appreciated the importance of donating blood when his friends were involved in an accident in the past. Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe acting managing director Clifford Gobo announced his organisation will this festive season partner with NBSZ in its campaign.

Zimbabwean 18 year old Monalisa Moyo won Miss Face of Africa UK 2011. Sonia Bott 21 from Zimbabwe was crowned First Princess and Shalom Kubwalo 24 from Malawi came as as Second Princess. The event took place at Nottingham Arts Theatre. 


Italy Honours Oliver Mtukudzi with prestigious Cavaliere of the Order of Merit Award

The government of Italy honoured Oliver Tuku Mtukudzi on November 25, 2011 with the prestigious Cavaliere of the Order of Merit award in recognition of his work as an international musician. This is an addition to the list of accolades that the great musician holds. Presented to Mtukudzi by the ambassador of Italy to Zimbabwe Stefano Moscatelli on behalf of the President of Italy, he becomes the first musician in Africa to receive the Cavaliere.“I dedicate the Cavaliere to Zimbabwe whose music is being recognised internationally,” Tuku said. Zimbabwe Youth Festival on December 10

All is set for this year’s Zimbabwe Youth Festival, an event slated for Decemeber 10 at the Glamis Arena. Running under the theme “Tambanuka” (express yourself), the festival is an interactive development platform aimed at building and supporting a formidable youth movement that uses the power of creativity to articulate common issues.

Since its inception, the festival has played a pivotal role in necessitating a social networking platform which various youths from several communities have used to explore their creativity and capacity in developing their talents. The main highlight of the festival is a concert featuring some of the leading and prominent local Zimbabwean artists. These include Sulumani Chimbetu, King Shaddy, Freeman, Mafriq, Chikwata 263, Stunner, Roki and the Afro shangara outfit, Mukoomba.

 Some of Zimbabwe’s leading poets including the Zimbabwe poets for human rights are also billed to perform at the festival and take part in nurturing young aspiring poets.

Zimbabwean Film Director Wins international Award

Joe Njagu, one of Zimbabwe’s growing filmmakers, has made history by winning an international award at the American Film Festival. Njagu won the best director award for the movie The Gentleman released earlier this year. The movie had been nominated for two awards — best director and best cinematography in the foreign languages category with five other African films.

Mtukudzi performed at Extra Mile Leisure Centre on Friday and shared the stage with Energy Mutodi and Peter “Dhewa” Moyo. Maraire on Saturday had an exciting gig at Mega Eastgate where she entertained a cosmopolitan crowd for almost four hours.

Musician Oliver Tuku Mtukudzi is entirely exasperated after being denied a commercial private radio licence by the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ). Tuku is a director in Kiss FM that was seeking one of the two licences to operate a commercial radio station in a country where the state Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation dominates the airwaves.

The Jackson 5 star was so moved when he attended the London premiere of David Gest's documentary 'Michael Jackson: The Life Of An Icon' earlier this month he telephoned his girlfriend Sonia Galindo and popped the question, and she excitedly said "yes". The film focuses on the King of Pop's incredible life from his beginnings with the Jackson 5 through to his death in June 2009 and seeing his brother's tragic end on the big screen inspired Tito, 58, to make the spontaneous proposal.

Nicholas Zakaria Building Music Academy in Chitungwiza

In a bid to assist upcoming musicians realise their dreams, popular sungura artist Nicholas “Madzibaba” Zakaria, is set to build a music academy in Chitungwiza. Chitungwiza is home to many popular musicians and some have called it “the city of music”. Madzibaba said there were many upcoming and aspiring musicians in the city and his dream was to see them making it to the top like many former names from their neighbourhood.

“I have already acquired land in Seke Unit L and plans are underway to start work on the site. Hopefully by June next year we will be officially opening the academy,” said Madzibaba. He has called upon fellow artists and interested business people to support him in his endeavour. He has struck a deal with a music equipment manufacturing company for the provision of instruments that would be used at the academy at affordable prices.

“Instruments in Zimbabwe are expensive. So the music academy and shop will offer equipment at affordable prices. We have to make it easy for established and upcoming musicians to get instruments.” The academy will house a recording studio that will mainly be used by upcoming musicians. “Fellow artists should take time and open doors to upcoming musicians that need assistance to realise their dreams.”

He said the academy would be open to musicians from across the country although the primary target was Chitungwiza. If his project materialises, Madzibaba will join the list of other musicians that have established arts academies like Oliver Mtukudzi who runs Pakare Paye Arts Centre and Clive Malunga who set up Jenaguru Music Academy.

Sulu, Jean Master takes 'romance' to a new level

Dendera musician Sulumane Chimbetu and upcoming jazz crooner Jean Masters do have a lot in common. They are both young, love their music to bits, relate fairly well with their fans and both have a strong musical background. And it appears they also enjoy a "professional romance" on stage, which continues to flourish every day, judging by the number of joint shows they have been holding since the beginning of this year.

Their professional "romance" has blossomed at Jazz 105 and Mushandirapamwe Hotel in Highfield, where their act has been well received. Tonight the duo will take their "affair" to another level at Jazz 105 in Harare, where they are expected to fuse dendera old school classics with afro-jazz music.

The gig comes barely a month after the two collaborated on stage, at Cresta Oasis in Harare. Despite their different genres, fans are often awe-struck by their aptitude, level of ingenuity, making their duets flawless despite their different sounding genres.

Rumbi hopes to emulate Malaika

Miss Tourism Zimbabwe, Rumbidzai Mudzengerere, is set to raise Zimbabwe's flag high when she takes part in the Miss Tourism Queen scheduled for China next month. The 21-year-old model, who is making her last-minute preparations for her trip to the Asian country, where she will take part in the beauty pageant to be held on

December 28, hopes to continue from where the reigning Miss Zimbabwe - Malaika Mushandu - left off.

The 17-year-old singing sensation premiered Fa La La, his new Christmas single with the 90s-era R&B group today. Grama releases Bhundu Boys and Mukadota Music on CD

GRAMMA Records have reissued Bhundu Boys and Safirio Madzikatire’s oldies packaged in modern technology to cater for their fans in this new era. The music stable has availed Bhundu Boys Early Hits (1982-1986) and Safirio Madzikatire’s Ndatenga Mota on CD. The music was previously available on the vinyl records and very few cassettes.

Gramma Artistes and Repertoire Manager Stan Ruzive said they had put the music on CD so that many who have modern gadgets for playing music can use it. “The music was previously found on the vinyl but we saw the numerous requests from music lovers so we thought of availing the music on the CD,” said Ruzive. Ruzive said they had selected some hits that made Bhundu Boys a household name and packaged it on one CD. The CD is aptly titled Early Hits and has 12 songs which were all hits one way or the other from 1982 to 1986.

Movado — Another Jamaican artist heads for Zim

Award-winning Jamaican dancehall musician, DJ, actor and producer, Mavado (born David Constantine Brooks) is billed to perform in Zimbabwe on December 16 at the Harare International Conference Centre. 
Organisers of the show — C&A Entertainment, who hosted Sean Kingston, Elephant Man, Liquideep and Mr Vegas — said Mavado would jet into the country on December 12.

ALL is set for the Miss Chitungwiza beauty contest to be held at the Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex on Saturday. A bevy of close to 17 models will take to the ramp and show the stuff they are made of. The modelling showcase - that was last held three years ago - is aimed at promoting models from the town.
Former Miss Zimbabwe Brita Masalethulini, who was the reigning national queen in 1999 before winning the Miss Malaika crown in 2001, will grace the event.

THREE of the country’s finest urban grooves artistes, Desmond “Stunner” Chideme, Enock “Nox” Guni and Shadreck Kwarire aka King Shady the Jack Bauer are set to tour the United Kingdom next month AGAIN. The tour is dubbed the Three Kings Tour and the trio is set to tour five cities in the United Kingdom kicking off on December 17.
They are visiting the UK on the invitation of UK based promoter Everjoy Kurangwah in collaboration with Madboiz Entertainment. Kurangwah confirmed the tour to H-Metro. “Yes, we will be hosting the trio next month and their first show will be on December 17 in Dunstable, Luton.

Zim Hip Hop 2011 Nominees Out

Nominees for the inaugural Zimbabwe Hip Hop Awards set for December 7 at the 7 Arts Theatre have been unveiled, organisers have revealed. The awards are a FIRST and a brainchild of Aldrian Harrison, the founder and executive designer for AH Clothing & Unleashed, an online hip hop magazine. Stunner is tipped as the favourite in the Best Male Hip Hop Of the Year. However he faces stiff competition from Tehn Diamond, Mr Hingis and Maskiri who were also nominated in the same category.

News coming in from the UK is that Chelsea football star Ashley Cole has landed a role on the big screen alongside hard man actor Danny Dyer. Ashley will appear in a new football-based film drama called Played. Good luck with your acting career Ashley. I recall Wayne Rooney tried his hand in acting in a commercial and got a thumping from fans who thought he was too dry and was better off on the pitch than in front of the camera.

For socialite Pokello Nare heel shoes are not a luxury in a woman’s wardrobe, but they are in fact a necessity. The 26-year-old mother of one owns over 200 pairs of designer heels and believes in fashion particularly shoes and it is her intention to bring it to Zimbabwe.

Her love for shoes has led her to opening a shop named Pokello’s Addicted To Shoes at the Sam Levy’s Village in Borrowdale. In an interview with the Daily News on Sunday Pokello highlighted that her love for shoes inspired her to open the shoe shop. “Fashion in America and England is always ahead. Even in African countries like South Africa and Nigeria, the trends are always steps ahead of us. I feel that we are too behind as Zimbabwean women and I intend to change that,” she said.
